Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a 10-digit alphanumeric number issued by the Income Tax Department assigned to taxpayers in India. All tax-related information of a person is recorded against a single PAN number, which serves as the primary key for information storage. No two persons or tax-paying businesses can have the same PAN. In cases where the PAN is lost or needs reissue, the Income Tax Department (ITD) has appointed only two entities, namely UTI Infrastructure Technology And Services Limited (UTIITSL) and Protean eGov Technologies Limited (Protean), to receive and process PAN applications and any PAN related services.
For PAN card reprint, a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) can choose between online and offline options. For the online option, they can submit the forms at the Protean (formerly NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited) or UTITSL websites.
